  • 5 Things Worth Bugging Your Fans Over

In 2020, capturing and keeping your audience’s attention can be a major challenge, even if yours is passionate about your music. While it might be tempting to share each and every detail of your musical journey, oversharing leaves the important things you want to say for being ignored and possibly not seen at all if you’re communicating with fans over social media. Here are five things worth sharing with your fans:

New music

Skip the cat memes and talk about your new music instead. Audiences are constantly on the hunt for new music, and when you have some of your own to share, it should be a big deal, even if all you’re offering is a new single instead of a larger piece of work. New music is one of the most important things an artist can talk about with their fans.

Upcoming tours and important local shows

Since recorded music is cheaper than ever before to access today, touring is becoming one of the last reliable streams for revenue for musicians. Touring is a big deal, even if you’re a small, unestablished band. In addition to sharing your tour dates, stuff like the local press you garner in each city, live videos, and setlists for each performance are important assets that your fans will connect with. Local shows are also important to talk about, especially if you’re trying to build momentum in your hometown.

Photos and videos

Humans are visual creatures, and most of your fans are probably humans. Regularly sharing sleek videos and compelling pictures can keep your audience’s attention and serve as great promotional tools for new music, shows, and merch. If you can afford it, hiring a professional videographer or photographer to create engaging content can be a big help in this area, but if you don’t have the money for it, learning how to create solid videos and photos will be worth your time.

Announcements your fans will actually want to hear about

Getting signed to a new publisher or label. Having music placed in a new TV show. A band member leaving your group. These are examples of important things your fans will actually want to hear about. Remember, between short attention spans and technology designed to tune out emails and social media posts that are too frequent or filled with dull content, you only have so much to work with when it comes to communicating with audiences. Save that communication for talking about things that are actually important.

Exciting press

In the age of playlists, reviews on blogs and in newspapers are still important. An exciting, well-written review can give language to ideas that your fans feel but don’t know how to say. Plus, sharing the fact that tastemakers in music are excited about your work can inspire your fans to listen to more of your work and tell others about you.

Knowing what to bug your fans about and what to keep reserved isn’t always easy, which means you’ll have to form unique priorities for what and how you want to communicate. The better you can learn to define what’s important about your work, the easier time you’ll have talking about and prioritizing it.
